With this article, we move to Los Angeles, home to the Parkwest Bicycle Casino, which hosted the Legends of Poker series. This one started on July 12, ended on September 3, and guaranteed more than $6 million in total.

Of that guarantee, Mega Millions XXVII sliced a large chunk for itself with a $2,000,000 guarantee. The buy-in to the tournament had three different levels. You could play for $280, $560 or $3,600. The highest buy-in allowed you to buy into Day 2.

Winning after many years

In total, the tournament brought in 3,817 entries, making the prizepool worth $2,234,290. A prize of $380,050 awaited the winner and that amount was also played for by legendary high stakes cash game player Phil Laak at the final table.

Phil had a chance to become a winner again after 14 long years. His last win came in September 2010 when he was the winner of the NLH 6-Handed event at the WSOP Europe in London. He took home £170,802 for the win then.
