The Brazilian Series of Poker is currently taking place in Sao Paulo, and it was during this event that great news was announced to the poker world. It came from the members of the World Poker Federation (WPF), which brings together 49 national poker federations.

The World Poker Federation has been trying for years to get poker on the list of logical sports and improve the status of the game worldwide. The WPF communicates with the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA), which decides what sport or game will be added to the list of logical sports.

The WPF and IMSA have now announced to the entire world that poker has officially been added to the list of logical sports. IMSA has thus recognized that poker is a discipline requiring mental skill, strategy and decision making under pressure, characteristics that are consistent with IMSA's criteria. "This recognition represents the dedication of thousands of people who consider poker to be a true intellectual discipline. It is an important step in cementing poker's position on the global stage," said Igor Trafane, WPF President.

The WPF needed poker to be classified as a logical game, and having officially achieved this status on November 16, they can now begin to develop and regulate poker by working with various governments, operators, national federations and regulatory bodies around the world.

What does this recognition mean for poker?

By being officially included in the list of logical sports, poker has increased its legitimacy, bringing new career paths and expanded opportunities for international competition. It will also bring greater stability, growth for the poker industry and a more structured environment for new partnerships and investment. Leonardo Cavarge , CEO of the WPF, stressed, " Our next step is to create standardised regulations, ensure player protection and create international competitive structures."
