Hopefully Adrian will forgive us for this, but we're going to start this article by naming David Coleman as the new Global Poker Index Player of the Year for 2024. Players earn points for finishing in individual tournaments, and American player David Coleman has reached as high as 4,383 points. He was followed closely by American player Jesse Lonis in second place with 4,374 points.
David Coleman earned over $5.2 million in 2024, won 6 tournaments and sat at 24 final tables. He won as many as 4 tournaments right back in January last year. His biggest career win came in December when he finished 6th in the $100k Triton Main Event, taking home $890,000.
The fact that David was battling Jesse Lonis for the title is quite understandable, as Jesse has also had a great year, racking up over $7.5 million in winnings and winning 4 tournaments.

Adrian Mateos wins his second Player of the Year title
The third place in the GPI Player of the Year award went to Spanish player Adrian Mateos with 4.312 points. He certainly doesn't need to mourn, however, as he was named Cardplayer Player of the Year 2024 with a score of 10,174 points, leaving just the aforementioned David Coleman behind him with 9,698 points.
The 30-year-old Adrian Mateos won 3 tournaments during the past year and sat on as many as 21 final tables. He finished second in six tournaments, finished third 4 times, and earned a total of over $13 million during the year. Jesse Lonis finished third in this ranking with 8,908 points.
Adrian was named Cardplayer Player of the Year for the second time, joining the likes of Daniel Negreanu, T.J. Cloutier, David Pham and Stephen Chidwick, who also have two titles each. The only other player to win as many as 4 titles is Men Nguyen.
