Perhaps the most prominent figure in the world poker scene is Daniel Negreanu, and this man will be the central figure of our article today. Yesterday, Daniel presented his plan for this year's WSOP in Las Vegas on the social network X (Twitter) and it is quite ambitious.
How many tournaments will he play?
As you might have noticed from the headline, Daniel announced his plan to play 53 WSOP tournaments this year, out of a total of 100 tournaments. The entire WSOP festival will run from May 27 to July 16, and during that period Daniel plans to take only a two-day break.
This year he would like to play all poker formats and all high roller tournaments. He plans to play only one tournament at a time, and will not start playing any other until he is finished in that tournament. He will be playing in Las Vegas from day one and will start his journey with the Mystery Millions tournament.
His plans also include the $250,000 buy-in Super High Roller and the $50,000 buy-in Poker Players Championship, which Daniel won last year to claim his seventh bracelet. The $10,000 buy-in Main Event, of course, is scheduled to start on July 4.
New additions to the schedule
There is also some news in his current schedule in the form of the Seniors events, which Daniel can play for the first time this year. This is because just after the end of last year's WSOP stop, he celebrated his 50th birthday, making him an eligible participant in the Seniors events. The first such tournament in his schedule is the $5,000 NLH Seniors Event, followed by the new $1,000 buy-in NLH Battle of Ages, where the flights will be split into two. The first fligh will be open to players aged 50+ and the second will be open only to players under 50.
There is also one Super Seniors NLH Event on the WSOP schedule with a buy-in of $1,000, but Daniel can't play that one yet as it is for players 60 and older. However, Phil Hellmuth reached that age last year and it is likely that we will see Phil in this tournament for the first time.
Finally in the black?
Last year Daniel Negreanu won his next bracelet after an eleven year wait, taking home $1,178,703. Despite this success, he ended up losing $170,000 at the WSOP. Daniel has now finished in negative numbers for 3 years in a row, putting him at a total loss of approximately $2 million. This year he would like to finally make some profit. Will he be able to do it?
However, Daniel's plans may change during the festival, it all depends on how far he gets in each tournament. If he only bought in once in each tournament, he would need more than $1 million for all his scheduled tournaments.. What do you think, will he be able to play the planned 53 tournaments? How do you think he will do in the Senior events? Let us know in the comments on our social media.
