The Triton Super High Roller Series has now moved to the Maestral Resort & Casino Montenegro, where a total of 14 tournaments will be played from May 12 to May 26. As has become customary in this series, tournaments numbered 4 and 14 will be missing, but there will be something else missing as well.
An unusual change
Short Deck tournaments are now a part of Triton. However, you won't find those at this stop. We don't know what prompted the organizers to make this change, perhaps it was the poor player turnout at the Jeju stop.
Thus, the tournaments this time around will be run in NLH and PLO formats only, and we can look forward to buy-ins ranging from $25,000 to $200,000. The NLH Main Event itself will have a buy-in of $125,000 and will kick off on May 20. The PLO Main Event has a buy-in of $100,000 and will play its first day on May 24.
Theopening tournament was the GGMillion$
Unusually for us, the entire series kicked off with the 25k NLH GGMillion$ Live with a buy-in of $26,500. The entries counter stopped at 163 here, bringing the prizepool to $4,075,000. Cash prizes were up for grabs for the top 27 players, with the smallest prize worth $41,000, $903,000 awaiting the winner, and the runner-up notching up $609,000.
Chris Moneymaker chipleader
The legendary Chris Moneymaker, not normally seen on Triton, sat at the GGMillion$ Live final table as chipleader. The only time Chris has ever played Triton was last year at the London stop where he played 3 tournaments.
Chris Moneymaker sat at the final table with a stack as high as 11,300,000 and was in the best position to win the valuable title. However, he had the company of names like Biao Ding, Adrian Mateos, Isaac Haxton and Brian Kim on the table.
There were also names like Nick Petrangelo (21st - $44,800), Patrik Antonius (17th - $55,000), Phil Ivey (14th - $61,100), Hossein Ensan (13th - $67,200), Justin Saliba (12th - $67,200), and Byron Kaverman (10th - $77,500) in yesterday's action, but none of them made it to the final table.
An incredible whirlwind
Isaac Haxton was the first to crash out of the final table, adding $91,300 to his account for ninth place. He was followed to the cashier by Morten Klein, who picked up $110,500 there as well. After the elimination of Lewis Spencer in seventh place ($153,000), we saw incredible all-in/call situations every hand, after which players busted out at a rapid pace. Within minutes, we were in the final heads-up.
After this flurry of eliminations, Chris Moneymaker, who had a stack as high as 25,700,000, re-entered the final heads-up as chipleader. Facing him was his compatriot Brian Kim, who held 15,050,000 in chips.
Heads-up play lasted only a few hands and did not bring any surprises. Chris Moneymaker called Kim's all-in on the last hand and after the board was dealt, he became the champion of the first Triton Montenegro 2024 event. In addition, Chris won his first ever Triton title and the first ever Triton trophy. He also bagged himself a cash prize of $903,000. Brian Kim earned $609,000 for his second place finish. Congratulations!
