This morning, the poker community can finally take a breather and enjoy a well-deserved rest after a busy December. The EPT/WSOP/WPT triple-header finally came to a close tonight with the final table of the WPT World Championship Main Event, which put a fine end to the year.
The tournament, with the biggest guarantee the poker world has ever seen, produced a total of 3,835 entries that fell just short of breaking the 40 million mark. After six long days of play, that record-breaking field was whittled down to the final six, who faced off for $5,678,000 in the night's streamed final table.
The final showdown, which lasted over 8 hours, welcomed four world-class names to the table, with all participants having won over $60 million before the final table. While many had pegged either Chris Moorman or Andrew "Lucky Chewy" Lichtenberger as the favourite prior to the final table, the reality was very different.
Two of the least experienced and well-known players - Greece's Georgios Sotiropoulos and local representative Dan Sepiol - made it through to the final heads-up match. The latter two players had a tournament average of 64bb, so the players opted for the ICM deal:

- Georgios Sotiropoulos: $4,167,246
After this deal, there was still a playoff for the title, a $10,400 ticket to the 2024 WPT World Championship, and an extra $600,000 to play for. This one went better in favour of Dan Sepiolo, who rolled a K 3 on the last hand against his opponent's K Q to finally put a golden dot on his run. In addition to the win of a lifetime, he will also receive the honor of having his name forever immortalized on the iconic Mike Sexton trophy. Congratulations!
