We know you're a long-time leader in the Belgian all-time money list. Do these rankings motivate you in your game?
„Yeah, it is nice to be number one Belgium on the all-time money list. It seems 20 years I'm number one so, it's important to keep my position as long as possible. But the goal is to be a number one in the world not only in Belgium - it's a small country.”
Are you enjoying the Winamax festival in Bratislava?
“It's really nice to play the Winamax tournament in Bratislava, we can meet all the French fun, that it following us the whole year. And the tournament is really fun, we play 6-max poker, which is the best. So it's a lot of fun, the city is really nice so we can go out to take good food, get good beers and good beer is important for Belgians.”
Have you tried any Slovak beers yet?
“I really like the Slovak beer, it is really nice. Actually I forgot the name, but there is a guy that makes me test some beers. So it's nice, yeah.”
Do you find it difficult to combine the life of a poker pro and the role of a father?
“Now I have a family, I have two kids, my older daughter is five years old, and so family is really important for me. And I think it's not a problem to be a poker player and have a family, you just have to have a good organization and to have a wife that understand your job and is heading the same direction as you. So yeah I enjoy my life being a dad and also a poker player.”
What does your role in the Winamax Pro team mean to you?
“Winamax is like a family for me, I'm here since 2008, so I'm the oldest on team. I'm used to be in this team, so it's a bit like a family, it's all about a spirit. And I have a long good relation with Winamax.”
Many people know that you are the proud owner of a Triple Crowne title - which win in your life was most valuable to you?
“I have three WSOP bracelets, that's amazing, but the last one is from 2014 so I absolutely need a new one. And I also have a WPT title and EPT title. The win at the EPT Berlin in 2012 was a bit like a consecration because I won everything so it was maybe the most amazing moment of my poker career.”
Do you have any unfulfilled poker dream?
“I mean we always play to be the best even to I don't think I'm going to have the all-time money list first price anytime soon, but it's good to have a goals and to have dreams. For me my dream and my goal is to win the Main Event at the World Series and I feel like it’s possible one day.”
Do you prefer live or online poker?
“I'm more of a live player, I like to feel the players around me to play more about the psychological part and I understand better the person, when we are playing in front of each other. So I mostly prefer a live poker, but I'm still playing online also for the training and to work on my technique.”
Final question, what's your favourite hand?
“My favourite hand is Q8. For some reason, it's a long story, but also the Belgians are pronouncing French in different way the number 8 we say „huid“ and the French „huit“. It's a bit different. So it's The French making fun of me and it became my favourite hand Q8.”
