Phil Hellmuth came as a Kung Fu fighter, the WSOP Main Event also attracted Dan Bilzerian

As has become tradition, Phil Hellmuth also entered the game during Day 1C of the WSOP Main Event, and this time he came dressed as a Kung Fu fighter. The Main Event also attracted Dan Bilzerian.

Flight 1C of the WSOP Main Event was opened yesterday by two-time (1987 and 1988) Main Event champion Johnny Chan with his "Shuffle up and deal" . This flight brought in the largest number of players yet, over 2,500.

Two underdogs of the day

The first unlucky player yesterday was David Moses, who found aces in the first hand of the day and ran into an opponent with K-K. Although a third ace appeared on the turn, his opponent hit a straight after the river, knocking Moses out of the tournament with pocket aces.

The other unlucky player was Ondřej Drozd of the Czech Republic, who busted out in the second hand of the day. His K-K wasn't enough for his opponent's aces, and there was no bailout on the board either.

Dan Bilzerian in the Main Event

Controversial millionaire Dan Bilzerian made an appearance in yesterday's flighty. However, he only lasted two hands in the game, according to his seatmates. In the first hand, he was supposed to bluff against a player with pocket aces. In the second one, he went all in for 4,000 with Q-5 against a player who hit a flush, knocking Bilzerian out of the game.

Bilzerian rarely appears at the WSOP, his only recorded cashout is from the 2009 Main Event where he finished 180th for $36,626.

Hellmuth in another costume

As is customary, every year Phil Hellmuth appears in the 1C Flight in some sort of costume, and this year he chose a Kung Fu fighter. Once again he came to the tournament hall with a spectacular parade dressed in a black karate gi and in the company of his apprentices. The apprentices in this case were names like Scotty Nguyen, Joe Stampleton, Jeff Gross, American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth and Dan "Jungleman" Cates.

With this spectacular entourage and to the music of Carl Douglas - "Kung Fu Fighting" Phil Hellmuth walked through the halls of the Horseshoe to his table. However, his performance has already been met with criticism and there are players who are not at all a fan of his theatrics.

What are the current numbers?

At this point in time, 4,250 players have registered for the WSOP 2024 Main Event, and 3,143 are still continuing. 1,907 players have advanced from Day 1C and they include names like Justin Bonomo, Chris Brewer, Adrian Mateos, Isaac Haxton and Andrew Lichtenberger. The numbers from the first flights so far don't show us that we should see a record Main Event this year. However, everything is still open.
