The most interesting robbery in Las Vegas that is still unsolved
In one of our last articles we promised you an article about the most spectacular robbery ever to happen in a Las Vegas casino, and today is the right time to tell you more about this case.
It all took place back in 1992, when an employee of the now-defunct Stardust casino stole more than $500,000 and simply vaporized.
Who was the robber?
At the time, 34-year-old Bill Brennan had been working at the Stardust Casino for 4 years and was working as a cashier. Rumor has it that he wanted to be promoted to supervisor, but his boss wouldn't let him. He thought that he just wasn't cut out for the job. Maybe that was the motivation for this act.
Bill was a quiet, unassuming and reclusive type who lived in his apartment with his cat. Recently, however, before the robbery, he had started hanging out with one of the players who didn't exactly have the best reputation, and everyone told him that this guy was only going to get him into trouble.
The perfect crime?
On the morning of September 22, 1992, Bill took a bag containing $507,361 from the Stardust Casino after work. About half was in cash and the rest in chips.
What is most remarkable about the case is the fact that none of the cameras caught Bill taking the money away, even though the entire casino was monitored 24 hours a day. Despite this, security analysts were unable to determine how he stole the money and in what direction he went.
It is also notable that he carried out the theft without harming or threatening anyone. Thus, it took the casino a few hours to even figure out that they were missing money and who might be behind it. The casino then contacted the police, who immediately went to Bill's apartment. There, however, they found neither Bill nor his cat, but they did find a number of books on how to change your identity. Immediately, a manhunt was put out for Bill and he was put on the FBI's Most Wanted list.
The case is still unsolved
It is currently over 31 years since that robbery and to this day no one has seen Bill, the money or the chips from that casino. US citizens have contacted the police with various information, but none have been relevant. Bill Brennan hasn't even contacted anyone in his family in that time and so the case is still unsolved. It is also interesting to note that the aforementioned pool player that Bill was hanging out with also disappeared a few days after the robbery and has not been seen to this day. Whether they collaborated on this act, however, no one knows.
Various rumors
We can only guess what happened and the public, media or police are working with several versions. Bill may have been working with the aforementioned player, who allegedly had links to organized crime, and he and his accomplice may have been killed after the robbery.
Another version says that Bill may have left Las Vegas and it is believed that he may have fled to Canada or Mexico, and there he may have changed his identity. One version is also that Bill is still living somewhere in Las Vegas, but has a changed identity. The version that Brennan bribed casino security personnel has also been floated, but the evidence does not support this claim.
We may never know what the truth is. After all, more than 31 years after the crime and the closure of the Stardust casino in 2006, the clues are almost nil. What do you think, was this the perfect crime after all?
