New information has come to us from far away Taipei, where the Asian Poker Tour (APT) series has been taking place over the past few days. In today's article, we take a look at the most interesting tournaments of the whole series.
ElkY champion of the APT SuperStar Challenge
We won't burden you with information in local currency, so we'll give you everything straight in dollars. The APT SuperStar Challenge had a buy-in of $25,350 and thanks to 49 entries, the prizepool here was worth $1,167,615. There was $367,793 waiting for the winner, the biggest prize ever offered in poker in Taiwan.
Well-known names such as Danny Tang, Roman Hrabec and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospelier also competed for this prize and the Black Lion trophy. While Tang took home $75,912 for his sixth place finish, Czech player Roman Hrabec battled his way to a nice third place finish worth $169,308. However, Roman was well on his way to the win as he was the chipleader when playing in the last 4 players.
The winner in the end was the well-known Bertrand "ElkY" Grospelier, who took home the full reward of $367,793 and an interesting trophy. "Even though I've been playing poker for so many years, when you get to the final table, it's always so intense, with so much emotion. Winning this trophy means everything to me. Ever since I joined the APT I've really wanted the Lion Trophy, it's the last thing I ever wanted in poker. So I'm very happy. I'm so excited to have finally won it," ElkY stated.
Haxton wins another Super High Roller
Let's move on to the $9,500 buy-in APT Super High Roller, which brought 137 entries and thus a prizepool of $1,200,000. This left a prize of $287,885 awaiting the winner.
The final table saw 4 eliminations in the first four hands alone. Names like Punnat Punsri, Anson Tsang, Tony Lin, and Isaac Haxton sat at the final table.
It was Tony Lin and Isaac Haxton who faced each other in the final heads-up where Lin was on hand to win. However, that didn't happen and Isaac Haxton won his first APT trophy along with a full winner's prize. Lin had to settle for second place.
The APT Taipei Main Event is now underway
The APT Taipei Main Event has already completed 2 flights, offers 4 flights in total and will run until March 9th. The buy-in for the tournament is $2,270 and the guarantee is up to $2,000,000. So it is clear that we will see many a famous name from the poker world in action.
