While the majority of the field was fighting for a place in the main event of the entire event yesterday, TV viewers were able to watch live the finish of the biggest EPT event in history. Today, the final six crowned its champion, who among 7,398 entries became Frenchman Lucien Cohen for €676,230 after a great one-man show.
59-year-old Cohen is no newcomer, he has been in poker for more than three decades, but many remember him since 2012, when he won the EPT Deauville. Although Cohen himself considers himself a recreational player and entrepreneur, as he himself declared in the interview after the win, "this victory helped me find my passion for the game again", which he immediately demonstrated - after receiving the trophy and all the responsibilities of winning, he did not wait for anything, but right away jumped into the Main Event.
Results of the €1,100 ESPT Main Event:
- Lucien Cohen – 676,230€
- Ferdinando D´Alessio – 415,320€
- Petros Karadimos – 294,620€
- Danilo Velasevic – 232,090€
- Ankit Ahuja – 177,810€
- Anihai Smadga – 136,850€
- Parker Talbot – 105,590€
- Igor Kaufman – 81,230€
As for the mentioned Main Event, it had the second and at the same time the last flight 1B on the schedule yesterday. It did not disappoint with its participation, on the contrary – the hall was full throughout the day, but at the end the registration board showed the number of 1,260 entries. This number contributed to the 791 entries of the first flight, and in total the EPT Main Event currently shows 2,053 entries.
In the entire 19-year history of the EPT series, the Main Event managed to break the 2,000 mark only twice, while last year's Barcelona holds the record with 2,294 entries. The attack on this record is theoretically still in play, as late registration is open until the start of day 2. So those interested can still buy a 30,000 stack and jump to the 1,000/1,500 level. Many will surely do so, but collecting around 230 entries seems unlikely.
As usual, a number of well-known names from the world of poker appeared in the game yesterday, many of whom managed to wrap up their stack at the end of the day. Antoine Labat, Jack Sinclair, Jason Wheeler, Niklas Astedt, Kayhan Mokri, Benjamin Spragg, Paul Tedeschi, Will Kassouf or Matas Cimbolas are worth mentioning. Poland's Sylwester Fortuna took the chip lead, making a 328,000 progressive stack from a 30k starting stack.
In addition to all this, the final day of the €2,200 Estrellas High Roller took place yesterday, where the last 10 players were introduced. The final 3-way deal ended the tournament, from which the Frenchman Antoine Labat won the most (€500,000), but the Croatian Goran Mandic became the champion in the end, who also received €418,980 allong with the trophy.
