EPT: Main Event prizepool over €8 million, Brewer and tonkaaap unlucky

Article cover

Main Event record broken

The expectations of the poker community have been met in the Main Event of the entire festival, which has now completed both days of play. After a solid Day 1A, which produced 607 entries, the last flight didn't let the players be shamed either, with players taking care of as many as 1,054 entries. In total, the 1,661 entries currently attack a prizepool worth €8 million, but we won't know the final numbers until today - registration is still open.

The top 358 players made it through yesterday, with Gregory Fournier, the home player, leading the way. The reigning champion Razvan Belea was also able to advance, while Max Neugebauer, Benny Glaser, Kenny Hallaert, Joao Sydenstricker, Bryn Kenney and Parker Talbot are also certain to play on Day 2.

Unlucky tonkaaaap

Long-time PS ambassador and popular streamer Parker "tonkaaap" Talbot is a regular at all EPT festivals, and he didn't miss the Paris stop either. It was during this time that he made a long reach for his first Spade trophy in the €2,200 FPS Main Event, where he fought his way to the final table in a field of 1,794 entries. His journey through the tournament ended only in heads-up play, where he was beaten by Danish player Henrik Juncker (€544,790), but the consolation prize of the ton was at least a reward of €334,180.

Neither Brewer defended his title

American pro Chris Brewer carried a chiplead into the final day of the €50k Super High Roller yesterday, with which he was well on his way to defending this title from last year. Like tonkaaap, Brewer eventually walked away from the tournament without a trophy, having found his undertaker in heads-up play. The winner was French player Thomas Santerne, a newcomer to the high stakes waters, who took home €889,480 in prize money and a trophy for France that had been 9 years in the waiting (the last time was won by Sylvain Loosli at EPT Barcelona in 2015).
