EPT Prague will bring the first Spin & Go World Championship

During the recently concluded EPT Barcelona, the MTT Spin & Go format was played live for the first time. It was a trial tournament for 27 invited players and a €10,000 trophy awaited the winner.

How did the trial go?

In the MTT Spin & Go format, only three players play at each table and players draw a prizepool at random. The tournament was a hyper turbo format with levels only 4 minutes long and players had to go through three phases.

In the first phase, the player who won 5 games advanced and we got to know the 9 participants of the second phase. In this phase, the players had to win 7 games and the advancing three met in the final phase, where the winner was the player who won 9 games. Each phase lasted approximately three hours.

The total prize pool of the test version during EPT Barcelona was worth €24,000. €10,000 awaited the winner, the runner-up received €5,000 and €3,000 went to the player in third place. Players in 4th to 9th place received €1,000.

After the test, it's time for the sharp debut

The first test version of the tournament has been successfully completed by the organizers, so it's time to organize the first Spin & Go World Championship. This is expected to take place in December during EPT Prague, but is still pending regulatory approval.

Although we don't have any more information regarding the prizepool yet, the organisers expect the prizepool to be worth €100,000. The random distribution of prizes will apparently be in the format of mystery envelopes or spinning the wheel.

A popular format that didn't exist in live tournaments

Spin & Go is a popular format and is played by a huge number of players, but until now there has been no form of it in the live tournament sphere. That's exactly why the EPT organisers decided to attract players of this format to the live poker scene and added this game format to their offerings. Only time will tell if this type of tournament will be successful in the live edition.
