Just 6 bb and a dream
Many of you must have watched the Live Stream from Paris yesterday, in which production gave us the final table of the record-breaking €1,100 FPS Main Event. The top 6 players made their way there and crowned their champion during 6 hours of play. This was Dutch player Mateusz Moolhuizen, who after defeating Slovenia's Blaž Žerjav in heads-up play, won the full €470,830 prize.
The Dutchman's success is sweeter as he jumped into the second day of play with only 6bb. "When people asked me how I was doing, I told them that I would just sit down for 2-3 minutes and go to dinner. After two hours of play, I suddenly had 80bb and I made my run to the end. I couldn't back down before the final round, I felt full of adrenaline, and even though I meditate regularly, I couldn't calm down. I'm tired but very happy, this is truly a dream come true!"
A spectacular start to the Main Event
The highlight of the entire EPT Paris festival is clearly the €5,300 Main Event, which had the opening Flight 1A on the schedule yesterday. During that event, the entries count climbed to 607, which by the end of the day had been whittled down to just under 200 advancers. Finnish player Eero Rantala is currently on the overall chiplead with a stack of 299,000.
As has become a good habit, the main event is regularly not to be missed by the world-class players, who were in abundance at the tables yesterday. For example, last year's runner-up in this tournament, Peter Jorgne, currently in fourth place. Pierre Calamusa, Dimitar Danchev, Gianluca Speranza, Byron Kaverman, Artur Martirosian, Ramon Colillas, Steve O'Dwyer and EPT 2023 Barcelona winner Simon Wiciak, who was announced yesterday as the new PS Ambassador, sat behind the tables.
Today we will find out the winner of the Super High Roller
The €50,000 tournament, which we also mentioned yesterday, closed its registration during Day 2 and the final 62 entries in it means a prizepool worth €2,916,480. Two days of play have whittled the field down to the last 6 players, who are now led by American pro Chris Brewer in their quest for the €889,480 prize.
