EPT: The Main Event record is about to fall

Article cover

After the record-breaking FPS Main Event, the main tournament of the entire event has already arrived - the €5,300 Main Event. It started on Sunday with a strong day 1A, at the end of which the number of 363 entries shone and 104 players successfully advanced. At the end of the day, names like Sam Greenwood, Juan Pardo, Maria Ho, Davidi Kitai, Pierre Calamusa, Stephen Chidwick, Harry Lodge, Julien Martini, Ramon Colillas, Dominik Panka or Patrik Antonius could pack their stacks.

The record from 2016, when the tournament produced 1,098 entries, was still a long way short, which could only be completed by the final flight 1B. Even those eliminated from Day 1A could jump into it on Monday, as the tournament is played in the format of one re-entry. Well, how did it end up?

The final flight took care of exactly 700 entries, of which 228 players advanced. Among the advancing players we were able to find stars such as Parker Talbot, Justin Bonomo, Dario Sammartino, Daniel Dvoress, Nacho Barbero, Maria Lampropulos, Conor Beresford and chess legend Magnus Carlsen.

In total, the number of entries currently stands at 1,063, which means that 35 additional entries are missing from breaking the record. Today can bring them, because late registration is open until the beginning of the second game day, when we will learn both the final numbers and the payout structure. A 5-day marathon of the live stream from this event starts today, which you can look forward to every day from 12:30 p.m.

In addition to the final flight of the Main Event, the final of the lucrative €100k Super High Roller took place yesterday, in which the last seven players out of 37 entries won a 7-figure sum. The star-studded televised final brought more than 5 hours of good poker, at the end of which the Bulgarian player Alex Kulev stands alone.

For the first time, the Bulgarian player found himself in a tournament of such caliber, but after a heads-up deal with Mikit Badziakouski and a subsequent successful finish, he immediately received the first tournament triumph in his career for €1,036,287. "It is my first big event and I am very moved by how it turned out. The reason I played this tournament was because I always want to play against the best players and learn from them. I won't lie that luck played an important role in my success, but I'm still very grateful for this win!”
