Twice during the month of June, we wrote about Scott Seiver, who won his fifth and later his sixth bracelet. But this night changed everything and Scott put his seventh bracelet on his arm. What tournament did he win it in?
Scott Seiver has a bracelet from five poker formats
The 72nd tournament on the WSOP schedule was the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship (7-Handed), which brought 186 entries and a prizepool worth $1,729,800. A $411,041 prize awaited the winner here.
Names like Phil Hellmuth, Ryan Riess, Alex Foxen, Darren Elias, Erik Seidel, Koray Aldemir, Eli Elezra, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Benny Glaser, Dario Sammartino, Todd Brunson, Shaun Deeb, Max Kruse, Mike Matusow, Yuri Dzivielevski, Dan Smith, Billy Baxter and Billy Baxter all came to play for a bracelet.
However, none of these players made it to the final 9. That's not to say there weren't any tough opponents in the finals. The list of finalists included names like Mike Watson, Jeremy Ausmus, Robert Mizrachi, Jason Mercier, Jen Harman and Scott Seiver. David Lin was the chipleader here.
In ninth place with a $39,882 prize was Jason Mercier, who was followed to the cashier for the same prize by Robert Mizrachi. Jen Harman was trying to get her next bracelet after almost twenty years, but in the end she finished in 5th place, and just minutes after her, Jeremy Ausmus finished on the cashier as well. Original chipleader David Lin had to settle for the third place prize.
Seiver entered heads-up play at a disadvantage
Scott Seiver (4,685,000), who was thus fighting for his third bracelet in a month, and Jonathan Krela (6,500,000), who wanted the very first bracelet for himself, entered the final heads-up. Even though the players had approximately 50 blind stacks, heads-up play lasted only 15 minutes. Scott was able to fleece his opponent of chips and get the advantage. At this point, he was just finishing what he started and became a three-time WSOP 2024 champion, adding a $411,041 bounty to his seventh bracelet.
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Scott Seiver | United States | $411,041 |
2 | Jonathan Krela | Canada | $274,217 |
3 | David Lin | United States | $187,177 |
4 | Jeremy Ausmus | United States | $130,794 |
5 | Jen Harman | United States | $93,615 |
6 | Mike Watson | Canada | $68,672 |
7 | Aaron Kupin | United States | $51,661 |
By winning three bracelets in one series, Scott joins an elite group of players like Jeff Lisandro (2009), Phil Ivey (2002), Ted Forrest (1993), Phil Hellmuth (1993) and Puggy Pearson (1973).
In addition, Scott boasts bracelets from five different poker formats, but wants to win a bracelet from all 9 formats. This win puts him back at the top of the WSOP Player of the Year leaderboard, and he also has a great chance of becoming a new member of the WSOP Hall of Fame next year. Why next year? Because the requirement is a minimum age of 40 and Scott won't reach that age until next year.
