Day by day, the action at Triton London is moving towards higher buy-ins and prize pools, but yesterday we witnessed the biggest numbers yet in the fifth event. The 50,000 NLH event produced a total of 112 entries and thanks to them the largest prizepool of the tournaments played so far - $5,600,000. 43 players returned to the game yesterday, but you could also follow their journey via Live Stream.
The almost 11-hour-long final brought a lot of interesting moments, among which we can definitely find the bubble at 20 players. On it, Wai Kin Yong didn't flip a pair of 8 8 against David Yan's A T , but we had to wait for the second game on the side table before he took the bubble-boy out of the tournament. On it, a contented Sam Grafton was shooting his all-in and pocket AA against Erik Seidel with KK, but even though one king was folded preflop, the last still landed on the flop, marking an ugly end to the tournament for Grafton. As a result, together with Yong, they divided mincash worth $73,000 in half, which meant a consolation prize of $36,500 for each.
From that moment on, the game was in full swing and everyone who wanted to get to the money was already quietly risking their tournament lives. It didn't take long and after Ole Schemion knocked out the winner of the first event, Luc Greenwood, we got to know the final table:
- Ole Schemion – 47 BBs
- Jamil Wakil – 42 BBs
- Dao Minh Phu – 37 BBs
- Orpen Kisacikoglu – 33 BBs
- Roberto Perez – 32 BBs
- David Yan – 32 BBs
- Leon Sturm – 24 BBs
- Nacho Barbero – 22 BBs
- Danny Tang – 10 BBs
Here, the power of the German poker school was once again fully demonstrated, which, after Fedor Holz, was demonstrated by the chip leader Ole Schemion. In the course of the first ten hands, he knocked out three players (Danny Tang, David Yan and Nacho Barbero) and uncompromisingly pursued the coveted first title.
In spite of the strong field, Leon Sturm, Jamil Wakil, Orpen Kisacikoglu and Roberto Perez gradually had to listen to their seat-open, thus the tournament reached the final heads-up. The unstoppable Schemion carried a 17m:4.5m advantage into it, and even though his opponent managed to record one double-up, Ole did not allow the looming surprise. In the last hand of the tournament, Schemion with A9 hit a three-outer against Phu's AK, sealing his fabulous debut in the Triton Series.
Thus, Schemion has had a successful premiere, as it is unbelievable that this is his first Triton festival in his life. Thanks to this win, he became only the second 30-year-old German champion after Fedor Holz: "I admit that in recent years I was lazy, I didn't play as much as I wanted. I also planned to go to Vietnam and Cyprus, but in the end it always fell through. I'm glad I didn't leave it alone now! I had a great feeling from the beginning, it was an amazing experience - nice tournament, great people and a lot of fun."
Final results:
- Ole Schemion, Germany – $1,350,000
- Dao Minh Phu, Vietnam – $915,000
