The Triton Super High Roller Series is still running at the Landing Casino at Shinhwa World Jeju in South Korea, having moved from its NLH part to the PLO tournament part. The second PLO tournament on the schedule had a buy-in of $52,000 and produced 112 entries, which meant a prizepool worth $5,600,000.
Only 19 players could make it to the ITM here and a $1,360,000 prize awaited the winner. There was room for only 7 players at the final table and they were led by Finnish PLO pro Joni Jouhkimainen with a stack of 4,675,000. Close behind with a stack of 4,300,000 was Hungarian player Gergo Nagy.
There were also names like Jeremy Ausmus, Tom Vogelsang, and another Finnish PLO expert Eelis Parssinen. Eelis was the first player eliminated at the final table, followed by Jeremy Ausmus and Tom Vogelsang to the cash desk.
With only three players left in the hand, they all had around a 15 blind stack, so they gradually took turns in the lead. Gergo Nagy (11bp) and Joni Jouhkimainen (33bp) sat in the final heads-up, and neither player had a series title to their name yet.
The very first hand saw an all-in/call situation, after which the stacks were even. The whole heads-up lasted only 20 minutes and even during the last hand both players had almost identical stacks. However, Hungarian player Gergo Nagy held a little bit more and became the new Triton champion after the board was dealt.
He joins two other compatriots, András Németh and László Bujtas. In addition to the title, Gergo also earned $1,360,000, his biggest career payday, which saw him surpass 2.8 million in live tournament winnings. Joni Jouhkimainen took home $930,000 for his second place finish, surpassing the $9 million mark in live tournament winnings.
PLO Main Event to see the champion today
The most expensive PLO tournament on the Triton Jeju schedule is the PLO Main Event, which has a buy-in of $104,000. The first day of play is already behind us, after which players will advance to the final table. Late registration will still be open until the start of the final day.
At this point, there are 74 entries in the PLO Main Event and 25 players have advanced to the final day. The chipleader here is Chinese player Ding Biao with a stack of 2,491,000. He will be accompanied by the likes of Daniel Dvoress, Eelis Parssinen, Benjamin Tollerene, Jeremy Ausmus, Chance Kornuth, Chris Brewer, Samuli Sipila, Stephen Chidwick, Jason Koon, Alex Foxen, Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey. Gergo Nagy and Joni Jouhkimainen also made the list.
Play will resume from 13:00 local time (5:00 our time) on blinds of 6k/12k/12k and players will play 45-minute levels.
