The Euro Poker Million 2 Million GTD Edition has met its champion. The tournament brought a massive €2,000,000 guarantee at a buy-in of €590 to the Rozvadov poker room and set a new European record with 6,237 entries. In fact, the €3,199,581 prizepool became the largest prizepool in a tournament with a buy-in under €1,000 in Europe.
Extra Day
The final was originally scheduled to take place on Monday, but the organisers decided to add an extra day. The top 8 players entered the final day, with Romanian player "Mario" as chipleader. In the final round there was also a pair of local players Michal Schuh and Josef "Pepa G." Gulas Sr.
All of them were already assured of a minimum of €43,500 at the final table. However, as much as €501,000 awaited the winner and all finalists were also assured of a ticket to the WSOPE Main Event. The €43,500 prize eventually ended up in the hands of local Michal Schuh, who lasted only about 30 minutes in the final table. He was escorted out of the game by his compatriot Josef Gulas.
Short game of the original chipleader
It didn't take long to see an embarrassing bust of chipleader "Mario", who lost his A-K to the Queen of Polish player Skurzynski. After this hand, the chipleader became shortstack and Skurzynski fired to chiplead.
"Mario" busted out a few hands later when his A-J wasn't enough for Skurzynski's Kings. The Romanian player took home €56,000 for his 7th place finish. After this hand, Skurzynski held almost double what the player with the second largest stack held.
Playing down to the last four players, Josef Gulas, the last home player, took the shortstack position. On his last hand, Skurzynski opened with a raise (Q-9) to 34 million, which was slightly more than what Julien Combier, sitting next to him, was holding. The latter found pocket tens under his hand, so he thought for a long time whether to put his entire stack into the fray. Combier eventually folded, and Josef Gulas, with K-10, immediately put his 21 million stack into play. After the flop and turn, it looked like Gulas would double up, but a nine on the river sent the last home player to the cashier. Josef "Pepa G." Gulas added 4th place and a €126,500 payday to his resume. After the board was dealt, Combier may have regretted throwing away his tens.
The last three players made a deal and the title was played out. Even though Combier only held 13 blinds, while his opponents had far higher stacks, the French player managed to make it all the way to the final heads-up where he faced Iakub Skurzynski. Heads-up, Combier only had 14bb and Skurzinsky held a massive 79bb. As you can probably guess, heads-up lasted only a few hands, after which Iakub Skurzynski became the winner. In the final hand, his deuces held up against K-Q, crowning him the record-breaking EPM 2 Million champion. He took home €405,354, a trophy and a ticket to the ME WSOPE. Julien Combier took home €238,709 and a ticket for second place. Congratulations!
