The Italian Poker Sport (IPS) series brought us its 54th edition, this time offering a €1,500,000 guarantee in the Main Event with a buy-in of €380. There was also a €10,350 ticket to the WSOPE Main Event waiting for 12 players.
This edition took care of two records at the Kings Resort. The first was for the number of entries in a single flight (1,653) and the second was for the total number of entries, which reached 7,007, making it the biggest tournament in this poker room.
A €250,000 prize awaited the winner, and the top 12 players played for it on the final day. The biggest stack had the German player Johann Schamne, worth 76,500,000. The second largest stack, worth 51,600,000, was held by Czech player Pavel "Pavel53" Švach.
To everyone's surprise, Pavel53 was one of the first to be eliminated. He lasted only an hour in the game and said goodbye to the tournament in 11th place, which was worth €21,400.
German player Robert Ashelm entered the 9-seat final table as the chip leader with a stack of 70,700,000. In second place was his compatriot Johann Shamne with a stack of 61,100,000. There was also one home player, Michael Adam. 8 players were guaranteed a ticket to the WSOPE European Championship.
Michael Adam had to say goodbye to the tournament in 7th place, which was worth €40,500. He was eliminated by Schamne, who hit two pair.
We saw a deal in the last four players, after which the trophy was still up for grabs. Just ahead of the final heads-up, German player Robert Ashelm finished with €140,000 in third place.
Going into the final heads-up, Johann Schamne entered as chipleader with a stack of 300 million (75 bb) and he was facing Romanian player Alexandru Moraru with a stack of 50,500,000 (13 bb). Heads-up play lasted only about 10 minutes, after which German player Johann Schamne emerged as the winner, knocking out as many as 6 of his opponents at the final table. He walked away with the trophy, a €211,000 prize and a ticket. The Romanian player was awarded €157,000 for his second place and a ticket.
