Not too long ago, we brought you the news that Kristen Foxen was among the nominees for the Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WiPHoF). Kristen is clearly deserving of this nomination as her contribution is undeniable.
Kristen is a 37-year-old Canadian pro who has 5 WSOP bracelets and total live tournament winnings of over $8.4 million. She ranks first among women in number of bracelets and second with tournament earnings. She won her first WSOP bracelet back in 2013, and her highest tournament win came earlier this year when she finished 13th in the WSOP Main Event, taking home $600,000. Kristen Foxen (formerly Bicknell) has now been elected as a new member of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
Jeanne David
Along with her, another new member has also been named and that is American player Jeanne David, who has tournament winnings worth over $250,000. Jeanne is a well-known tournament player who loves Mixed Games and up to 95 percent of her winnings have come in Mixed Games. In addition, she was the Head of Responsible Gaming for PS Game Room until she retired a few years ago.
She was also very active in legislation in the US or Europe, where she pushed for the legalization and regulation of online poker. She has also spoken before Parliament in the Netherlands and has attended several meetings with the UK Gambling Commission on responsible gambling and the prevention of gambling addiction. She has run courses teaching Mixed Games and has always tried to get women involved in tournaments by offering free lessons for beginners.
Pioneer Induction
Not to forget the female poker pioneers, but they are not very well known and so here we have the induction of women into the Poker Hall of Fame in this category as well. This year, that honor was posthumously awarded to Starla Brodie, who left us forever on April 8, 2014.
Starla had two WSOP bracelets to her name and was even the first woman to win a WSOP open tournament. The win came back in 1979 when she played the WSOP $600 Mixed Doubles Event with Doyle Brunson. She won her second WSOP bracelet in 1995 when she dominated the $1k Women's WSOP Seven-Card Stud event. Professional poker player Linda Johnson has said of Starla that she was inspired to compete at the WSOP and play poker professionally, which is what she has been doing.
The official ceremony to induct the players into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame will take place on December 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plaza Hotel and Casino Las Vegas.
