The popular WPT Prime series, with a buy-in of 1,100 and a convenient structure, is enjoying great player turnout around the world. Grand Casino Liechtenstein is no exception, hosting the series again after one year. This one tempted players with a million-dollar guarantee, but that was just a formality - thanks to 1,411 entries, players split CHF 1,411,000 between them.
The biggest shares of the prizepool went to the final table entrants, who were featured on Monday's final day. Leandro Dirlewanger jumped in as chipleader, holding over 50% of all chips in play in the last 8 players!
The first two hours of the final day were marked by an aggressive chipleader and cautious shortstacks. Dirlewanger took full advantage of his chip advantage, but gradually made sure that Phuong Nguyen (CHF 25,500), Milad Sheva (CHF 32,500), Matej Michalek (CHF 42,500) and Manfred Eberhard Frick (CHF 55,000) had to say goodbye to the game.
But after a short break and a deal attempt that didn't come to a happy ending, the tables were totally turned, and Dirlewanger certainly won't remember this passage in a good way. Gradually, all his opponents got over him, but for the first time someone else rose to the fore - Marc Sen, who finished second in this tournament last year.
It was these two gentlemen who, after eliminating Nico Frenn in fourth place (CHF 73,000) and Alexis Tremblay in third place (CHF 98,000), met in the final heads-up, but it was Sen who carried the massive chiplead into it. The man-to-man battle didn't last long, but we knew the name of the winner after just half an hour.
It was all decided preflop all-in, with Dirlewanger s to face Sen's . The dealer gradually laid out on the table , which meant that we witnessed the last board of the tournament. After that, it was sealed that the final table chipleader had to settle for "only" CHF 132,000. The champion of the tournament was Switzerland's Marc Sen, who improved on last year's second place and as champion this time took home the trophy and a prize of CHF 209,120 including a ticket to the WPT World Championship Main Event in Las Vegas!
