The boom in poker broadcasts has gradually moved from television and live streams to the letsplay community, thanks to which viewers regularly have the opportunity to watch professionals live during their poker sessions. Although the scene is full of names of various qualities and nationalities, one name is at the imaginary top of this community.
That name is none other than Lex Veldhuis, a Dutch professional who has become a pioneer and record holder of streaming poker in many ways. Lex is regularly the top among live streams and also holds the record from May 2020, when he became the most watched stream on all of Twitch thanks to 58,416 unique viewers!
As part of his career as a streamer, Lex was most active on the Twitch platform, where he reached the status of a Twitch Partner, which allows content creators to monetize their streams in more ways than regular users (advertisements, subscriptions, merch...). Lex revealed that although he earned more than $5,000 a month as a partner, he nevertheless decided to back out of this collaboration.
According to him, the main reason was the freedom he lacked in this relationship. Partner status obliges you to broadcast a pre-determined minimum number of hours and days per month, but since online poker is prohibited in the Netherlands, Lex had to travel to Belgium three times a week on average. Considering that he has two small children at home (the younger one is only a year and a half old), he decided to take his foot off the gas and move his activities to other networks - mainly YouTube and Discord.
As he said: “I love poker and I want to continue to develop it. However, I also want more control and more opportunity to plan my time. I want freedom and this is the best way to get it.” What do you think of Lex's move? Are you one of his fans and will you continue to follow him on other platforms? Let us know in the comments!
