The more than 62-year marriage of the legendary Doyle Brunson and his wife Louise can be an inspiration to many today. The story of Louise and Doyle, like the life of this legend, was unrepeatable. Despite various troubles and hardships, the couple persevered and stood side by side until Doyle's death in May of this year.
Only 5 months after her husband's death, his wife, with whom they had been an inseparable couple for the rest of their lives, left to join him in poker heaven. The news was reported by their daughter Pamela Brunson, who wrote that Louise died peacefully in her sleep. "I'm sure she's very happy to be reunited with her father in heaven." At the end, Pamela thanked for all the condolences and prayers and asked for a peaceful last farewell, which will take place on Monday in the circle of the closest ones.
Doyle and Louise first met at Hardin-Simmons University in Texas, where they both attended. Shortly after school, in 1961, a couple in love arranged a wedding, and this sacred union lasted their entire lives for 62 long years. It's unbelievable, but even though Doyle was a well-known celebrity for most of his life, he was able to protect his private life well and the family was able to live a relatively "ordinary" life.
Doyle and Louise had three children together, but despite Doyle's successes, their lives had many ups and downs. Probably the biggest family tragedy was the sudden death of their daughter - Doyla Brunson was born with a damaged spine, but despite that she led a relatively normal life. She made it all the way to a well-known school, where, however, the aforementioned tragedy occurred - when Doyla was only 18 years old, her heart failed one night in the dormitory and she could not be saved.
"We've been through a lot in our long lives," said Louise in one of her interviews a few years ago. "What doesn't kill you makes you even stronger and brings you closer together. Doyle always knew I loved him and I knew he loved me. What we have between us is true love, and with its help you will overcome all obstacles."
The married couple themselves did not have it easy in life, Doyle was diagnosed with cancer for the first time when Louise was pregnant. The young and stout Doyle managed the difficult treatment at the time and was able to recover from the disease. Health problems also plagued Louise, for which Doyle did not hesitate for a moment and almost completely withdrew from the poker life in order to take care of her and spend as much time as possible with her. Just like the poker career of the legendary Texas Dolly, his personal life can be an example for many of us.
