We hope we don't need to introduce any of our readers to the World Poker Tour (WPT) series, which had its 22nd edition last year. In that time, it has seen more than 400,000 entries and given away more than $1.5 billion in prize pools in total. Live WPT tournaments have been held in 48 countries around the world.
But who we should definitely introduce to you is the name Daniel Arsham, who will also be a big part of today's article. Daniel is a 44-year-old artist based in New York City whose works are created from geological materials such as sand, selenite and volcanic ash. These materials allow for the look and aesthetic of erosion or archaeological "future relics" as Arsham, who has had exhibitions around the world, calls them.
Last year, Daniel Arsham teamed up with watch brand Hublot and together they brought a unique piece of watchmaking that combines a pocket watch, a necklace and a sculpture to create a masterpiece. The Hublot Arsham Drop is a unique pocket watch with two titanium chains that allow it to be worn as a necklace. Also included is a mineral glass stand on which you can eventually present the watch as a decorative sculpture. Only 99 pieces were made and the price is €92,000.
Poker combined with art
The WPT brand has now teamed up with Daniel Arsham and together they have brought a truly unique piece to the poker world. The WPT Arsham Poker Set is an exclusive limited edition collectible "briefcase" that combines high-stakes poker with the visionary art of Daniel Arsham.
This exclusive set includes 350 ceramic poker chips, two original embossed card decks, a dealer button made of anodized aluminum, and a certificate of authenticity. The poker set is packaged in an anodized aluminum case custom designed by Arsham Studio. Only 100 pieces will be sold worldwide to maintain its uniqueness and the price per set is $5,000. If you would like to purchase this set, you can do so at wptarsham.com, where sales will begin on February 14, 2025.
"Partnering with Daniel has allowed for some truly unprecedented moments and stunts over the past few years. And now, through Daniel's visionary artistry, we are proud to release an elegantly designed poker chip set that can be acquired by art and poker enthusiasts from around the world," said WPT CEO Adam Pliska.
"The collaboration was an opportunity to push the boundaries of the traditional poker set. Through materials, texture and form, I wanted each element to evoke a sense of sophistication and permanence, a testament to the culture and energy of the poker world," said Daniel Arsham.
