The $300 buy-in NLH tournament held at the Texas Card House in Dallas brought in 1,648 entries, and one of the players was Toronto's Mark Toulouse. Mark has been a regular in poker tournaments at this club and has had a number of results here.
On Sunday, the tournament made it to the ITM, but unfortunately Mark didn't live to see the end of it. He collapsed right in the middle of a game, at the poker table, and an ambulance was immediately called to take him to the hospital. Despite the quick intervention of the doctors, Mark could not be resuscitated, and the doctors had declared him dead. Mark Toulouse has thus left us at the age of 73, and the probable cause of his death was a heart attack.
After he collapsed, all players were already ITM and his stack was left on the table. Eventually, he unblinded, and so Mark officially finished in 26th place in his last tournament with a $1,475 payday. This prize money will be given to his family. Matt Savage also commented on his death, sharing a few pictures of them together on X/Twitter, to which he wrote that Mark was a great guy.
Mark's first live tournament results date back to 2014, but he started appearing regularly in tournaments in 2018. Mark also won one WSOPC ring in 2023, which he took home from a $250 NLH tournament. In total, he has 166 ITM placements and his live tournament winnings have exceeded $553,000. Prior to his poker career, he was a professor at Emmanuel College in Toronto. On behalf of the entire editorial staff, we extend our sincere condolences.
