PSPC: The champion will take 4 million, the record narrowly resisted

Article cover

It has been talked about for a long time how the second edition of the unique PS Players Championship will once again bring an incredible event that will go down in history in many ways. Yes, the fact that it is a one-off format is undoubtedly true, but the record-breaking claims of 2019, which were indicated by the higher number of Platinum Passes given out, ultimately did not end up true.

PSPC: The record is about to be broken, Moorman is the chip leader after day 1PSPC: The record is about to be broken, Moorman is the chip leader after day 1

1,005 players entered the first day of play, which meant that 34 extra entries were needed on day 2 to break the record. But since the tournament is a pure freezeout and everyone has only one attempt to play, the vast majority missed this opportunity on day 2 and late registration was used by only 9 players yesterday. The record from 2019 remained unbroken by only 25 entries, but even so, we are witnessing the second largest live tournament in history with a buy-in of $25k and only one of fifth in history that broke 500 entries (the other three were the WPT in 2006-2008 , while the largest brought 639 entries).

The five-day event will continue today with 255 players, 175 of whom will take home prize money starting at $35,100. On the other side of the payout structure, we will get to know six millionaires who will take home rewards from $1,001,200 to a fantastic $4,053,200, to which, of course, the winner will also receive a brutal trophy (and probably membership in the PS Pro team).

Yesterday brought a lot of great action, bustouts of well-known players and bright moments of unknown qualifiers, so there was definitely something to watch. If you missed the stream from day 2, here you can watch it again (you can look forward to another stream from day 3 in the evening):

Bulgarian Krasimir Yankov is currently leading the mentioned 255 players, but in the top 10 we also find names like Jeremy Ausmus and Chris Moorman. In the field we can still find players such as Dario Sammartino, Sergio Aido, Chance Kornuth, Sam Grafton, Chris Moneymaker, Scott Baumstein, Kalidou Sow, Fedor Holz, Dominik Nitsche, Conor Beresford, Timothy Adams, Sean Winter, Byron Kaverman, Daniel Dvoress, Mustapha Kanit, Espen Jorstad, or the winner of our last SPADEPOKER TOUR, Ramon Lampert, who just won a Platinum Pass at the Grand Casino Liechtenstein (the next SPT Liechtenstein starts in a week)!
