WPT Cambodia is still underway at the luxurious five-star NagaWorld Integrated Resort in the capital city of Phnom Penh, and will be held there until February 24. The series schedule features up to 63 tournaments.
One of the tournaments was the $20,000 buy-in WPT Super High Roller, which attracted 52 entries and a prizepool of $988,624. This amount was shared by the top 8 players, with $323,269 awaiting the winner and $215,510 up for grabs for the runner-up.
The top 8 players sat at the final table and their chipleader was German pro Dominik Nitsche with a stack of up to 4,285,000. He was kept company by two other well-known names, namely Czech player Roman Hrabec and German player Fabian Gumz.
Dominik Nitsche gradually started to lose chips and after Fabian Gumz eliminated several of his opponents, he took over the chipleader position. He held that position until the last four players. But here Nitsche started to make his presence felt again and eventually eliminated his compatriot Fabian. Fabian Gumz finished in 4th place with a prize of $99,752.
However, Dominik's chiplead was short-lived again and was taken away by Roman Hrabec, who eliminated the player in third place and took care of the final heads-up, where Dominik Nitsche sat against Roman. Even though Roman started with an 81 blind stack against Nitsche's 23 blind stack, he had nothing certain yet.
Heads-up play lasted for almost an hour, during which the players took turns at the chipleader position. At one point, they settled for ICM Deals, after which Roman secured $277,779 and Dominik took home $261,000. After that, the players played blind for the winner, which was Roman Hrabec.
The latter added another win to his rich poker resume, bringing his lifetime live tournament winnings to over $12.2 million. Dominik Nitsche's live tournament results have already passed the $21 million mark.
