Simon Wilson is the new champion of the record-breaking Irish Open, taking home €600,000

The Irish Open is over and we present you with the latest names of the new champions. First up, we start with the €1,150 buy-in, €2,500,000 Main Event, which brought the prizepool to €4,447,950 thanks to a recordbreaking 4,562 entries.

Of this amount, a whopping €600,000 awaited the winner and the top 19 players battled it out at the final table. They were led by Italian player Umberto Ruggeri. Michel Karim sat at the final table as chipleader with a stack of 51,200,000 and Umberto had the second largest stack.

However, it was only 22-year-old Irishman Simon Wilson who started to make his way to the front and eventually made it to the final heads-up where Umberto Ruggeri sat across him. Wilson started heads-up play with a stack of 170,000,000 and Ruggeri with a stack of 56,500,000.

The whole heads-up only lasted about 15 minutes, after which Simon Wilson became the champion and the owner of the €600,000 prize. Umberto Ruggeri took home €316,000 for his second place finish, bringing his live tournament earnings to over $1.6 million.

 

We also met the Mini Main Event champion

Yesterday was also the final day of the €250 buy-in, €1,000,000 Mini Main Event. This tournament brought in 6,411 entries bringing the prizepool to €1,343,874. The winner of the event became Tyler Gordon from the UK, who took home €116,000.
