Super High Roller Bowl heads to Cyprus and kicks off in just a few days

Article cover

The Super High Roller Bowl series, number nine, will take place from August 17 to August 25 at the new Onyx Club, part of the luxurious Merit Royal Diamond Resort in Cyprus. The Onyx Club is an exclusive invitation-only club for members who enjoy high stakes poker.

A total of ten tournaments await us on the aforementioned date, and all of them will be pure freezeouts. Buy-ins will range from $25,750 to $306,000. Seven tournaments will be in NLH format and three in PLO format. There will also be an NLH Mystery Bounty tournament and a PLO Mystery Bounty tournament, both of which will have a buy-in of $25,750.

The NLH Main Event will have a buy-in of $102,000 and the most expensive tournament will be the prestigious Super High Roller Bowl IX with a buy-in of $306,000. Of course, there is also scoring in the PGT Leaderboard, where all players will earn a certain number of points based on their ITM placement.

More than 60 players have confirmed their participation

In addition to the basic information, the SHRB series also brought us some names from the more than 60 players currently confirmed. Names such as Jeremy Ausmus, Aram Zobian, Sergio Aido, Santhosh Suvarna, Adrian Mateos, Seth Davies, Nick Petrangelo, Ben Heath and Mikita Badziakouski will be coming to Cyprus to play.

The last three tournaments will be in PLO format, and those are sure to feature Finnish players like Joni Joukimainen and Aku Joentausta. However, well-known German player and WSOP 2023 Main Event final table participant Jan-Peter Jachtmann will also be in attendance.

We can also look forward to livestreams that will chart the final table of the first five tournaments and then focus on the SHRB tournament, which will be streamed from day one. The livestreams, however, will only run on the paid PokerGO platform.

Who has won the SHRB in the past?

The Super High Roller Bowl originated in 2015 and since then we've seen various iterations of it, such as SHRB China, SHRB London, SHRB Bahamas, SHRB Australia, SHRB Russia, SHRB Online, SHRB Europe and SHRB PLO. A total of 17 of these tournaments have been played, but the organisers only consider the ones with a serial number after the SHRB name to be the main ones.

So we are now facing SHRB with serial number 9, and past winners include names like Brian Rast (I), Rainer Kempe (II), Christoph Vogelsang (III), Justin Bonomo (IV), Isaac Haxton (both V and VIII), Michael Addamo (VI) and Daniel Negreanu (VII). We'll find out who the ninth winner will be on August 25.
