Longtime poker streamer Kevin Martin has captured the attention of the global poker media by announcing one of the wildest poker bankroll challenges of all time, which viewers can also watch live on Twitch. In fact, Martin has rebooted his entire bankroll and his goal will be to go from $0 to a $5,000 bankroll.
Of course, he explained to his viewers what gave him the idea to start his poker career from scratch. "I started my career in micro stakes," explained the GGPoker ambassador, "I spun it from nothing to what I have today. It's been about 10 years since I started poker, and I've always wanted to get back into it. I think this is a great chance to put all my money down and restart with zero. I want to show people the heart, the hustle in poker, and how you can rock it in poker."
Live stream 24/7
Reaching a four-figure bankroll from nothing is not the only goal of this challenge. Martin is also trying to set the record for the longest streak by a poker player in history. "KMart" started this crazy challenge at the end of February when he turned on the stream on Twitch in the morning and promised to continue 24/7. And when he says 24/7, he means it - because he leaves the camera on even when he's sleeping, eating or showering. When he logged out of the GGPoker client on the first day, he left the video from his bedroom running, along with the on-screen footage of that day's poker session.
Another obstacle "KMart" will face is lack of sleep while trying to reach his goal. "I can go as far as I can if I get eight hours of sleep. If I eat, sleep, exercise, I'll be fine and I can play for a long time. So yes, I watch my sleep and I have to get eight hours every single day. This whole thing is a pure soul project where I want to create something beautiful for the poker world."
The difficulties of the Bankroll Challenge
Martin, a reality TV star who appeared on Game of Gold last year and competed twice on Big Brother Canada, admits that the challenge he has accepted won't be a cakewalk, but he is confident in his abilities and that he can do it. "I didn't do well yesterday because the tournaments are very variable," Martin said of the tough first day of the challenge. "Yeah, it's not going to be easy, this is really, really, really, really hard. How many top level pros have had bankroll challenges that they've given up on?"
Many other notable pros have competed in bankroll challenges, with Chris Ferguson being the O.G. of it all when he went from $0 to $10,000 at the legendary Full Tilt Poker in 2011. Doug Polk is another high-stakes pro who successfully completed an online poker bankroll challenge when he went from $100 to $10,000 in 2018.
