It was a hell of ride, and the entire poker public will remember it for a long time. We are talking about the London stop of the prestigious Triton Super High Roller Series, which in the past two weeks has dosed the audience with a poker event full of the biggest names in world poker. The battles for multi-million prize pools brought many beautiful stories and well-known winners, but you can also remember the entire event in one place on our website here.
After playing the most expensive tournament of the entire festival and the Main Event in the NLH format, we had the last duty at the very end, which was to recognize the champion of the Main Event in the Short Deck format. The dynamic format attracted 27 players to the game, who paid the $60,000 buy-in a total of 46 times. The result was a $2,760,000 prize pool that was waiting for the best eight players.
We got to know them after the elimination of Isaac Haxton, who saw two shorts successfully double on the direct bubble, but he did not manage to achieve a similar success. Shortly after that, the players sat down at the final table, which was led by Chris Brewer and Jason Koon:
- Chris Brewer – 4.8 million (240 antes)
- Jason Koon – 3.24 million (162 antes)
- Tan Xuan – 1.76 million (88 antes)
- Masashi Oya – 1.62 million (81 antes)
- Wai Kin Yong – 1.06 million (53 antes)
- Lun Loon – 660,000 (33 antes)
- Kiat Lee – 655,000 (33 antes)
The final table definitely did not turn out according to the expectations of Chris Brewer, who started it with a third of all the chips in the game, but even that did not guarantee him a place in the top 3. From Brewer's stack, the chips gradually went in all directions, but especially Lun Loon took from him more than once quite a bit of the stack. The result was a fifth-place finish for Brewer, which earned him $226,300.
It was in the last four players that the key hand came, which decided the later winner. Jason Koon played a pair of 9 9 here with Tan Xuan, who was very happy with K K on the K 9 Q flop. But that passed after the dealer conjured the last 9 in the pack on the river. “Honestly, I don't think I've ever hit a 1-outer in my life. In the showdown, I had already accepted my fate, stood up and left. That's when I turned around and when I saw the river, I couldn't believe my eyes."
From that moment on, Koon was already playing the first fiddle, but when he went heads-up against Kiat Lee with a 197:148 ante advantage, many suspected that we would witness another broken record. And so it happened, Koon gradually took chips from his opponent's stack until he finally finished what he started. The result is an incredible ninth Triton title and the respect and honor of perhaps the entire poker community. Well played!
