The Grosvenor Casino Coventry is once again hosting the huge The Goliath tournament, which has been rewriting poker history for several years. The buy-in for the tournament has varied over the years and this year is £160+£40. The organisers were expecting a prizepool of £1.5 million.
New record achieved
Last year the tournament managed to reach 11,493 entries and that was with a buy-in of £150. The prizepool was thus worth £1,379,160. This year, however, the numbers are higher and the casino has once again rewritten its own record. The final 11,749 entries means a prizepool of £1,879,840, making Goliath once again the biggest tournament outside of Las Vegas.
However, the casino also set another record for the number of entries in a single flighty. Yesterday's Flight 1G brought 2,189 entries and players had to wait in a long queue outside the casino to register.
Today we are already waiting for Day 2, where 991 players have made it through. Day 2 will kick off at 11:00 am and players will run through 40 minute levels. How much the winner will take home will be announced by the casino later today.
