The king is back! Phil Ivey wins eleventh bracelet after 10 years!

Article cover

Everybody knows that Phil Hellmuth has 17 gold bracelets and is the number one in the number of such jewels. However, the second place with ten bracelets was shared by several players. However, this is no longer the case today!

Let's get all the background information out of the way first. Event number 29 was the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship (6-Handed), which brought 149 entries and a prizepool of $1,385,700. There was, of course, a gold bracelet awaiting the winner and a $347,440 prize to go with it.

This format attracted stellar names such as Daniel Negreanu, Scott Seiver, Mike Matusow, Chris Brewer, Dylan Weisman, Nacho Barbero, Bin Weng, Jeremy Ausmus, Chino Rheem, Allen Kessler, Josh Arieh and Yuri Dzivielevski.

However, none of them made it to the final table. There were names like Benny Glaser, Jason Mercier and the legendary Phil Ivey, who had a chance to win his eleventh bracelet.

With Benny Glaser dropping out in fourth place, that left a trio of players in Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey and Danny Wong. Mercier was the big chipleader here, taking chips from Phil Ivey in particular, who fell to his last 100k in the 80k/160k blinds. If you thought that was the end of Ivey, you are mistaken.

Phil showed us all why he is considered poker's GOAT and after a few hands he was holding a stack of 2,260,000. At this point, the organizers decided to stop play and continue with an unscheduled fourth day, where the top three players sat at the table.

The chipleader here was Danny Wong with a stack of 3,730,000, followed by Jason Mercier (2,955,000) and the smallest stack was Phil Ivey (2,260,000). After Wong eliminated Mercier in third place, play moved into the final heads-up. There, Wong had a chiplead of 5,315,000 and Ivey opened with a stack of 3,630,000.

It didn't take long for the legendary Phil Ivey to chiplead and keep the pressure on. Ivey slowly robbed Wong of everything and won his 11th gold bracelet in ten years. He confirmed his clear second place in the number of bracelets just behind Phil Hellmuth, leaving behind the likes of Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel and Doyle Brunson (who all have 10 bracelets). Along with the bracelet, Phil also took home a cash prize of $347,440.
