Not too long ago we brought you an article about an alleged hoax and probably made-up cancer. Behind this whole case was Rob Mercer, who claimed that he has the last stage of cancer and his dream is to play the WSOP Main Event before he dies.
The poker community came together to send him to play the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. After a while, however, people started talking about the fact that his entire cancer was probably just a fabrication. After these allegations, Rob pulled himself off all social media and later gave a statement that he wasn't making anything up, he really did have terminal colon cancer and only had the last few months to live.
In short, so much for the information published last time. But now we have a real twist in the case! Cody Daniels, a poker player who is really suffering from cancer, received a message from Rob Mercer, who admitted that he had just made up his colon cancer.
He was lying after all
In a long text message, Rob states that his doctor has not diagnosed him with any form of cancer. The Las Vegas Review Journal also got involved in the whole story, contacting Rob by phone and he subsequently stated: “I lied about colon cancer. I don't have colon cancer. I used it to cover my situation. What I did was wrong. I shouldn't have told people I had colon cancer. I did it just for fun when someone asked me what kind of cancer I had. I'm sorry I wasn't honest."
Rob Mercer has raised between $30,000 and $50,000 in donations through GoFundMe contributions, including $2,500 from seriously ill player Cody Daniels. In addition, he also got a suite at the Bellagio during the WSOP.
Is he sick or not?
After these statements, GoFundMe contacted Rob and asked him to return the donations he had received because he violated the terms of the service. However, Rob refuses and claims that he has cancer. Are you lost in it? Mercer states that he has male breast cancer, but has yet to be diagnosed by any doctor as he refuses to see a doctor for fear of the outcome. He is afraid to hear that he is dying. But he claims that he has all the symptoms of male breast cancer and may only have months to live. It is said that he made up colon cancer because he was ashamed to admit that he had breast cancer.
"Obviously I was just trying to stick to my story. I didn't want to be exposed because it looks bad. I lied. I'm not going to deny it. I should have been transparent about what was going on with me and told people what was going on. At the end of the day, I lied to a lot of people because I was afraid to tell the truth. And I think I'm going to have to pay for that," Mercer said. He concluded by telling the Las Vegas Review Journal that he stopped playing poker due to his deteriorating health and now spends about 18 hours a day in bed. His future at the poker table is so questionable.
What do you think? Should Rob return the money he received? Do you think Rob really has some form of cancer and was just afraid to admit it, or is he just a fraud? Let us know in the comments on our social networks.
