Las Vegas brings different stories about how someone's huge win changed their life, or vice versa, how someone lost their entire fortune. Then there are also stories about various crimes, and today in the article we will look at one such.

Actually, there won't be just one, but three robberies that took place within 4 months. The first robbery took place in November 2021, when a man ran into the Red Rock casino and stole $73,810 from the cash register. The second robbery took place at the Aliante casino in January 2022, where he took $11,500, and the third at the former WSOP venue Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in February 2022. In the last robbery, he took $79,000 from the cash register. In total, he stole more than $164,000.

Same person was behind all the robberies. Caleb Mitchell Rogers, 35, who was a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer at the time. In each case, he entered the casino dressed all in black, with his face covered and wearing black latex gloves. However, the third robbery was already fatal for him - casino security caught him in the parking lot in front of the Rio casino, disarmed him and handed him over to the police. He was investigated by the Metropolitan Police and the FBI.

His entire charge focuses mainly on the third robbery, because during that one he entered the Rio with a police revolver and threatened to shoot the 63-year-old cashier. In addition, he threatened to shoot the security service itself. He is accused not only of robbery, but also of threatening with a firearm during and in connection with a crime of violence. Caleb was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest and immediately stripped of his police powers. He faces 20 years in prison and even life imprisonment.

His younger brother Josiah, who confessed to helping in the first robbery, also stood up against him. In his testimony, he stated that he was the getaway driver and that they practiced the entire robbery. He took $30,000 from the robbery and moved to Ohio. Josiah was granted immunity from prosecution for testifying against his brother.

If you're wondering what led him to these three robberies and why he didn't stop at the first one, we have the answer for you. He used the knowledge and skills he had acquired as a police officer to tackle his gambling addiction. The main reason was his huge gambling debts, which he could no longer repay.

The jury finally found Caleb guilty after a three-hour deliberation, and in October they will hear what sentence he will serve. In conclusion, we will add that he never confessed to the crimes, and his defense attorney disputes much of the evidence presented.

As you can imagine, this is far from the only robbery in Las Vegas casinos. Among the most daring is certainly the robbery at the Bellagio casino in 2000, during which $160,000 was stolen. At that time, these robbers also ransacked the armored vehicles of the casinos and also shot two guards. A much larger amount was stolen from the Stardust Casino in 1992, when casino employee Bill Brennan made off with up to $500,000. He did not use any violence for the theft, but we will talk about this interesting case another time.

Mehmet Erdem, a professor at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, whose expertise also includes the operation of hotels and casinos, commented on the whole robbery situation. He said that the chances of getting caught in such a robbery are very high. Mainly thanks to modern cameras with a face recognition function or also thanks to the security components present in casinos.
