Article cover

At the Landing Casino at Shinhwa World in Jeju, the Triton series moved from NLH to PLO format, and the very first tournament had a buy-in of $26,000. The entries count reached 117, bringing the prizepool to $2,925,000.

Only 19 players could make it to the ITM, and the smallest prize ($39,000) went to Hungarian pro András Németh, along with American player Martin Zamani.

The action at the final table

Only the top 7 players were allowed to sit at the final table and the chipleader was Tom-Aksel Bedell with a stack of 7,100,000. However, there were also such players as Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel, who only had 2 blinds.

The very first hand of the final table pitted these two personalities against each other, with Erik Seidel in the all-in. Phil Ivey hit a full house right on the flop, and Erik got $123,000 for 7th place. Moments after Erik, Phil Ivey also said goodbye to the tournament, finishing in 5th place for $213,000.

Tom-Aksel Bedell and Chinese Triton newcomer Shi Ning Dan, for whom this was the very first tournament on this series, sat in the final heads-up. His total live tournament winnings would just barely be enough to cover this buy-in.

Tom-Aksel Bedell started heads-up with a stack of 18,550,000 (37 bb) and Shi Ning Dan started with a stack of 4,850,000 (10 bb). Play in the last pair didn't even last 20 minutes and we got to know the new champion, which was Tom-Aksel Bedell. He earned $709,000 and won his first Triton title. His live tournament winnings have now topped $4.4 million. Newcomer Shi Ning Dan added $486,000.
