Tom Dwan loses arbitration over his debt

Article cover

We have been following Dwan's case for some time now and as expected, pressure from people has forced him to speak out on the situation. Due to his lengths towards players such as Peter Jetten, Cole South, Haralabob Voulgaris and Dan "Jungleman" Cates, Dwan has been sued by the company as we wrote about in this article:

Debtor durrrr? The legendary Tom Dwan is accused of defaulting on his debtsDebtor durrrr? The legendary Tom Dwan is accused of defaulting on his debts

All of the aforementioned players took a swipe at Dwan on Twitter, with perhaps the exception of Jungleman, who showed some mercy and expressed words of support for his old friend. However, these ceaseless tweeting shootouts forced Dwan into action and the result was his words of innocence. Allegation against allegation came down to arbitration, which was handled by Matt Berkey.

Who owes who?

Jetten was stacked by Dwan at one time, and later Ike Haxton joined the stacking. Unfortunately for them, Jetten's best results came in tournaments where they didn't have their money in, and the Canadian created an astronomical 1.6 million make-up against the two stackers. The accusation against Dwan's debt, however, comes from a different deal.

The details of the stacking that Dwan and Haxton provided to Jetten thus created a stir in the situation itself. So who is owed who? Jetten himself has said that the stacking provided to him was not a casual affair or an act of friendship. As he himself stated, the stacking was a logical step, as he himself was a long-time winning player at the time.

Arbitration between Dwan and Jetten

So, after public pressure, Dwan agreed to arbitration and gradually reduced his $226,000 debt to $96,000. To date, however, the details regarding the entire process stand only on Jetten's statement. According to him, Dwan, thanks to a newly acquired sponsorship deal with "ACR Poker", was able to put together the money and began to gradually pay off his debt. Jetten also expressed that he is keeping his fingers crossed for others who are owed some amount by Dwan. But if the rumors of a $30 million debt are true, it's going to be a long time before Dwan manages to shave off such an astronomical amount....
