Triton Jeju breaks record after record, attracts many newcomers

Article cover

The Triton Poker Super High Roller Series has once again moved to the Landing Casino at Shinhwa World in Jeju, where it runs from February 26 to March 15. It will offer a total of 18 tournaments in NLH, PLO and Short Deck formats with buy-ins ranging from $15,900 to $159,000.

Record-breaking opening

The very first tournament was in NLH format and had a buy-in of $15,900. A huge field of players filled every single seat at the table and in the end, the organisers were delighted to see a new record of 379 entries. This tournament became the biggest Triton tournament ever held, breaking last year's record of 305 entries set by a $25,000 buy-in tournament in March 2024.

Players created a prizepool worth $5,685,000 and a $1,100,000 prize awaited the winner. The first tournament brought in 266 unique players, and of those, 111 were playing in the Triton series for the first time. More than 50 players were from China, but there was no shortage of familiar names such as Alexander "Wolfgang Poker" Seibt, Ethan "Rampage" Yau, Rania Nasreddine, Martin Zamani, Jon Kyte, Bernhard Binder, Adam Hendrix, Shiina Okamoto and Fabian Bernhauser.

The top three places here were eventually taken by players from China, and the winner after heads-up play was Zhao Hongjun, who took home the trophy and $818,000. Although Zhao was the winner, the biggest cash prize went to Yuzhu Wang, who pocketed $975,000.

The second biggest tournament

The No. 2 tournament offered a buy-in of $21,200 and became the second largest tournament of the Triton series thanks to 348 entries. The prizepool here reached $6,960,000 and $1,350,000 awaited the winner.

At the final table here, names like Ren Lin, Igor Yaroshevskyy and Mario Mosböck battled it out for the biggest prize. However, none of them could stop a Malaysian amateur by the name of Tuck Wai Foo, for whom this is the first stop of the Triton series. Foo also took on Austrian pro Mario Mosböck in the final heads-up match to claim his first Triton trophy with a $1,350,000 prize. Mario Mosböck earned $856,000 for his second place finish.

The record-breaking continued

While the organisers were rejoicing at the new record set in the first tournament of the Triton Jeju series, they had no idea that the record would not be long-lasting. We told you that the first tournament was the largest Triton tournament with 379 entries, and that tournament number 2 became the second largest. Okay, so forget those claims outright, because tournament number three shattered both of those records.

The third tournament had a buy-in of $26,500 and, with 391 entries, became the new Triton Series record. This new biggest tournament of the series reached a prizepool of up to $9,775,000 and the winner will take home $1,892,000 at the end of the tournament. A total of 63 players can enter the ITM and the smallest buy-in is worth $41,500.

73 players have made it through to today's Day 2 and Stephen Song is leading the way with a stack of 3,220,000. Alexander Seibt, Jeremy Ausmus, Phil Ivey, Dietrich Fast, Kristen Foxen, Ebony Kenney, Alex Foxen, Fedor Holz, Stephen Chidwick, Chance Kornuth, Matthias Eibinger, Adrian Mateos, Patrik Antonius, Roman Hrabec and Mikita Badziakouski are also on the list of qualifiers.
