Just a few weeks ago, we brought you an article about the cancelled WPT Vietnam Passport to the World Championship that was supposed to take place at the Crown Poker Club Hanoi. At that time, the reason for the cancellation was supposed to be a failure to comply with legal obligations.
If you recall, we also brought you an article in the recent past about the return of poker tournaments to Macau. Along with that was the announcement of the spectacular WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June at the Wynn Palace Cotai and was set to kick off a major international series in the area.
The entire WPT Macau series was to run from June 18 to 24 and was to be the result of a long-term collaboration between the WPT, Wynn Macau Ltd. and Allied Gaming & Entertainment Inc. (AGAE). This spectacular festival was to be the first WPT event in Macau and the first international poker series to be held in Macau since 2018.
WPT Macau will not be held!
As you may have noticed we're only listing everything in the past tense, as the WPT announced on their Twitter (X) that WPT Macau is cancelled.
"Official announcement regarding WPT Macau:
WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June, will not take place. The WPT, Wynn Macau and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment to players from around the world who were planning to travel to Macau and play in the event. The WPT remains committed to working with Wynn Macau and AGAE in the future to bring world-class poker tournaments back to the region."

WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June, will not move forward. The WPT, Wynn Macau, and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment for players from around the world who were planning to travel...
While the WPT has already hosted successful events in Cambodia, Korea or Australia this year, it joins other poker companies that have cancelled their scheduled tournaments, reportedly due to regulatory crackdowns. However, we don't know the reason for the cancellation of WPT Macau as none of the organizers have disclosed the reason. Inside Asia Gaming believes that the cancellation of WPT Macau has nothing to do with the situation in Vietnam.
As a final note, the U Series of Poker was supposed to be held at the Crown Poker Club Hanoi these days, and it too was cancelled a few days before it was due to start. This is the fourth poker series that had to be cancelled in Vietnam in the last few months.
What do you think about the whole issue? Will there still be any big poker tournaments in Macau or Vietnam?
