During the past few hours, thanks to WPT, many have discovered that poker is played in exotic places like Cambodia, and many have discovered that Cambodia is not in Africa. The WPT series kicked off 2024 in style, with the Cambodian Main Event totally demolishing the guarantee, and raising the million-dollar mark to nearly $2.5 million.
After the opening two days, 231 players returned to the Day 2 tables with the goal of making it into the top 95 paid positions. Andrej Desset was the one who ensured that all players in the room were happy. In the very first hand of the unpopular hand-for-hand phase, the eyes of the whole hall were on this player.
On the flop Andrej bet 68,000, to which he received an all-in from opponent Bao Pham. An almost 2-minute tank ensued, after which Andrej decided to call with , with which he faced a showdown . Right on the turn he landed a club , which decided the sad fate of our player to a huge ovation of the whole hall.
By the end of the day, the field had been reduced to the last 48 players, among whom there were not many familiar names. The overall chipleader is currently Mike Falcon (1,876,000) followed by Joshua Mccully (1,810,000). Also in the top 5 is American Tony Dunst (1,575,000), who already has one WPT title to his credit.
Play will continue today in the blinds at 10k/15k and comfortable 90-minute levels will see players through to the final nine. Each of the aforementioned 48 players is already assured of a $9,943 payout at this point, but all eyes will be on the $441,546 prize money destined for the champion.
