WSOP Main Event bubble burst, all players are ITM

Article cover

Yesterday's fourth day of play at the record-breaking WSOP Main Event saw 1,524 players start the day and 1,517 of them were able to make it to the ITM. On the bubble, we saw two straight all-in/call situations. The first one saw German player Christian Stratmeyer put his 57,000 in with A-K, which was called by his opponent with 8-3. Two eights appeared on the flop, and to make matters worse after the river, this player also hit a flush. Stratmeyer was thus the first bubble-boy.

The second hand was even more interesting. English player Lucas Reeves put in a preflop 7-bet with K-K, but ran into his opponent's A-A. No help came after he was dealt the board, and Reeves was eliminated. Both Stratmeyer and Reeves split the $15,000 mincash, so they each won $7,500, plus they drew a card from the deck and whoever drew the higher won a free ticket to next year's Main Event. The ticket was eventually awarded to Christian Stratmeyer.

Main Event goes into day five

Day 4 of the record-breaking WSOP Main Event, with 10,112 entries, eliminated more than 1,000 players overnight, leaving only 464 players currently in play. The chipleader here is Stephen Song with a stack of 4,745,000. Adrian Mateos, Aleksejs Ponakovs, Leonard Maue, Alexander Tkatschew, Alex Livingston, Nacho Barbero, Brian Rast, Kristen Foxen, Parker Talbot, Maria Ho, Tony Dunst and the legendary Phil Ivey are also continuing to play.

Among those eliminated with the smallest prize of $15,000 were Daniel Negreanu, last year's Main Event winner Daniel Weinman, Erik Seidel and 2022 Main Event champion Espen Jorstad.
