This is the second time that the WSOP has held the popular Mystery Bounty tournament with a $1,000,000 top prize. This year's edition drew 18,188 entries for a prize pool of $4,587,950. The first player to pull the top prize was Shant Marashlian and boosted his career earnings which were just over $200,000. But Marashlian stated in the post-pull interview that he is trying to stay focused and not really thinking about the one million. “I don't know what I'm going to do with the money just yet because there's a lot of poker to play.” The next one to pull the million dollar prize was Patrick Liang. The first thing he did after that was to give $1,000 to everyone at his table. “I think I've been very blessed to share. So, like, you know, I believe that what you do comes around,” he said in an interview after the win.
In event nr. 8, the $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship the Canadian player Chanracy Khun was able to deal with the 64-player field to win his first bracelet and $507,020 first-place prize. To add even more value to the title we have to mention that Khun was facing Doug Polk in the finals, who is considered to be one of the greatest heads-up players. "I feel really good. I'm relieved. And it's tough to find any words, but it's a mix of emotions. But at the end of the day, I'm really, really glad it's over." added Khun after the victory.
We cannot forget to mention the success of Nick Schulman, who was able to get his fourth bracelet in the star-studded final table of the event nr. 9: $1,500 Seven Card Stud. In the final heads-up he dealt with Andrew Hasdal and with the bracelet he took also the $110,800 first-place prize and surpassed $15 million in career-tournament earnings. "Four bracelets means a lot. It's not lost on me that I've accomplished some things, and I'm still here. It means a lot," Schulman said.
Only one year ago, Chad Eveslage won his first WSOP bracelet, and now, few days after winning his second, he won his third in the event nr. 10: $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship. Eveslage was able to top the 130 entries field and alongside the bracelet he added $311,428 to his career earnings. Eveslage was joking in the interview after that his improbable run could be a sign of the world coming to an end: "Not probably, but 10% this is the last World Series to ever happen. You know, gotta make the most of it while it’s here ... Nice to get a win, nice to get some of this before we all merge with machines.”
