Today, we kick off the first EPT Barcelona NLH High Roller with a buy-in of €25,000, which attracted 46 entries and a prizepool of €1,104,460. Cash prizes were up for grabs for the top 6 players and €381,060 awaited the winner.
Football Star Destroyed by Royal Flush
Star footballer Gerard Piqué came to play at EPT Barcelona and first tried the €20,000 buy-in tournament that took place on Wednesday. However, Gerard didn't last long and left the game penniless.
Yesterday, Gerard Piqué also made his way to the 9-seat final table of the €25,000 High Roller, where he sat with the second-smallest stack. Before the final table itself, Piqué ran into Steve O'Dwyer with his pocket sixes, who hit a Royal Flush on the board to take a chunk out of Gerard's stack.
Interestingly, just before this hand, Piqué told Pokernews that Steve O'Dwyer was his favourite player. The former partner of singer Shakira ended up finishing in 9th place, again with no prize money, and Steve O'Dwyer didn't even make the final table.
The winner of the first High Roller was Byron Kaverman, who just two days ago finished second in the €12,300 Cuatro Knockout for €119,400. This time he took home €381,060 for first place.

Estrellas fails to break the record
The opening flights of the €1,100 buy-in Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event have been underway for a few days now, as the tournament looks to break last year's record of 7,398 entries. However, it didn't happen this time.
The tournament generated "only" 7,138 entries, making it the second largest tournament in EPT history. The prizepool has now reached €6,852,480, and of that amount, €625,000 awaits the winner. As many as 1,066 players have made it through to today's Day 2, led by Canada's Andrew Chen with a stack of 1,077,000.
