WSOP Paradise has teamed up with Triton, does the WPT have anything to worry about?

Article cover

For the past few years, the WSOP Series has been headlined by the largest online poker room, GGPoker, and they have joined forces with the Triton Super High Roller Series brand to bring us the spectacular WSOP Paradise.

Spectacular plans

WSOP Paradise is scheduled to run from December 6-19, 2024 at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Like last year, it is set to compete with the WPT Las Vegas and EPT Prague series. Last year, the WPT told us that their Main Event would have a $40 million guarantee at a buy-in of $10,400, but the organizers were unable to collect that.

WSOP Paradise came up with an even bolder plan this year, announcing a Super Main Event with a $50 million guarantee, the biggest poker guarantee ever for a live poker tournament. Last year the Main Event had a $5,000 buy-in, now the buy-in is set to be as high as $25,000 and up to 2,000 entries will be needed to fill the guarantee. However, GGPoker is preparing a number of online satellites for this tournament and will be sending a number of qualifiers to the event.

Along with the announcement of the new GGPoker and Triton collaboration, the organizers also brought us information about the upcoming Triton Million tournament, which will take place during the WSOP Paradise and will start on December 7. The player field will consist of invited players, so it will be a format that we have seen in the past. Businessmen, celebrities, and poker enthusiasts will be invited to invite one professional poker player. The buy-in for the game will be $1,000,000 for both players combined, so each will pay $500,000.

We still don't know the tournament schedule, all we know is that 15 gold bracelets will be waiting for players again, just like last year.

"We are thrilled to present the Triton series in the Bahamas for the first time, which marks a significant milestone in our journey. This event brings us closer to North America, expands our reach and allows more poker enthusiasts to experience our unparalleled, high-stakes format. Our partnership with GGPoker and the WSOP further strengthens our commitment to delivering a world-class poker experience. Hosting at the iconic Atlantis Resort is an honour as we set new benchmarks for poker tournaments and enhance the excitement and prestige of our events," added Andy Wong, CEO of the Triton Series.

What's it look like with the WPT and EPT Prague?

As mentioned earlier, the WPT Las Vegas and EPT Prague will be taking place at the same time as WSOP Paradise. We saw the same clash of these three tournaments last year. The EPT Prague series didn't seem to be hurt, WSOP Paradise had a successful first year, and with the WPT World Championship, many are wondering if the guarantee would have been met if WSOP Paradise hadn't been held.

However, that question is hard to answer and can only be debated. However, the current question once again is whether the WPT series can be successful with such a strong combination of brands, which until now has yet to give us any more details about this year's tournament. Will the WPT series come up with a new venue date after this announcement, or will it look to attract players for an even bigger than $50 million guarantee?

What is already clear to us all is the fact that the combination of the WSOP, GGPoker and Triton SHR Series brands will attract some of the world's biggest names in poker to the Bahamas, bringing us multi-million dollar prize pools and long hours of great televised poker. We're looking forward to December, are you?
