In 2024, The Grosvenor Coventry will host the 12th edition of The Goliath, a tournament known worldwide. It has built a name for itself as the largest live tournament (by number of entries) held outside of Las Vegas each year.
With a buy-in of £100 and later £150, the tournament surpassed the 10,000-entry mark for the first time in 2022, when the counter stopped at 10,584. That record was broken last year when players managed to collectively collect as many as 11,493 entries. The reigning champion is Alex Todd, who took home the iconic trophy and a £177,200 prize after a 6-way deal and subsequent runner-up finish.
This year, the organisers are making no secret of the fact that they would like to break the record again and the number of entries could exceed the 12,000 mark. A total of 8 opening days will be required to make that happen, taking place between July 27 and August 2. This year's buy-in is set at £200 and organisers expect the prizepool to exceed £1.5-million.
